Things we ‘sea’

Ever wonder what to do with all that extra bamboo you have? Try some public art. Hong Kong’s Times Square boasts a bamboo seascape complete with sailboat.

We are working on a bamboo version of a San Francisco heart.

The Star Ferry is the commuter’s version of a harbor cruise.

From Kowloon, commuters have an excellent view of the Hong Kong skyline, especially at night.

Gina enjoyed moving the seat direction as she once saw on The Amazing Race.

If you can find this sign, you will find us 100 meters down the road at Nha Trang, our favorite Vietnamese restaurant.

Sunday, Monday, Happy Days…

Be careful, that skewer is on fire!

Fine, then

2001, Venice. We laughed until we had tears in our eyes. 5,000 Lire. Well, back then it was about $7.50 USD. And we found the no smoking sign on the water taxi hilarious.

Of the many advertisements on the MTR, this one has me laughing each day. The fine is a bit more than $7.50 USD (actually its a lot more), but still brings back the giggles from Venice.

Thank you for riding the MTR.

First impressions

It’s been a very exciting and busy first 4 days in Hong Kong. Most of our time has been spent getting our bearings; purchasing cell phones; dropping by Gina’s office; meeting up with old friends; looking for serviced apartments. Of course, I had to visit the Flagship Shanghai Tang store *my favorite*.

We’ve done limited sightseeing, but please anticipate more on our local adventures, which will be the focus of this blog.

So far we can report the following…

We went to Mong Kok neighborhood for dinner and Darryl is happy to report that he ate black chicken and pig brain. He has one up on Andrew Zimmern. I am learning what dishes do not contain chǐyóu 豉油 and have found gluten-free grocers throughout Hong Kong Island, and specifically in Central near work.

While we’ve spent most of our energy running errands, I’ve enjoyed taking photos of local signs and products. Please enjoy our satirical thoughts below.

Perhaps a healthy promotion gone wrong?

Despite her unkind words, I still heart kitty.

And Happy Easter greetings from Godiva:
